REdiscovering community

I was thinking about the title to my blog this morning, and I am certain that it has been mistitled. Notions of development are often driven by profit and success. The impetus for the developer should fulfill some intrinsic good. The developer should stand in the gap between the reclusiveness of individuals and provide a link for people in community. Lately, however, the developer has created price-bracketed retreats. People leave work, get in their cars, and retreat to their homes that are up to 100 miles away. On a side note, the fascination that we have with our success and control in our lives is most like an addict's addiction to heroin. We are absolutely in awe of our own success and we are willing to keep it at any price. So we are willing to buy big cars with big gas tanks so that we can make the long hauls everyday. We are making huge sacrifices to live this type of life, but when someone talks about living in community they say, "but that takes too much sacrifice."
